It’s safe to say that it’s easy to love someone but it’s
hard to trust. But what good is love if there is no trust? Love is done with the heart, while trust is done with
both the heart and mind. Many times, we as followers of Christ love God but we
don’t trust Him. Our hearts say, "I love you, God" but our minds say, "What if, God?" The hurt of rejection and betrayal that we’ve experienced from
our past remain in our hearts as we strive to draw closer to the Lord. These wounds if
left unhealed can lead to extreme anxiety causing us to doubt God and His plans
for our lives.
“For we walk by faith,
not by sight.” 2 Corinthians 5:7
Have you ever surprised someone with an incredible gift? It was
so awesome that you even blindfolded them to escort them to their surprise? And once
they saw the surprise they gasped in excitement? Well, imagine that is what God
does with us. He blindfolds us through this journey holding our hand along the
way. Since we cannot see what is ahead or around us, the only thing we can rely
on is His voice. “Turn left.” “Keeping walking straight.” “Okay, these are
steps… step down now.” However, many times we doubt His voice because of our
past.
“My sheep listen to My
voice; I know them, and they follow Me.” John 10:27
The Psalmist David, unsure of his future cries out to the
Lord in Psalm 39:4, “O Lord, make me know my end and what is the measure of my
days; let me know how fleeting I am! (ESV)” Like David, I have also asked God
to remove my blindfold at times. "What is my end, God?," I would cry out. I would allow situations from the past dictate
what God already spoken over my life. Instead of trusting HIS voice I trusted
the voices from my past.
“How happy is the man
who has put his trust in the Lord…” Psalm 40:4
So maybe you’re
reading this today and you say, “How do I know if I’m fearful of my future?” Well, here
are some indicators:
- What if THIS doesn’t work out?... THAT never worked out.
- How can I do THIS God, when I failed THAT?
- When will THIS happen?... THAT still hasn’t even happened…
Begin to trust God and His plans for your life by saying THIS:
- God, I know THAT didn’t work out but I believe You make all things work together (Romans 8:28).
- Lord, you know I messed THAT up but I know that I can do all things with You by my side (Philippians 4:13).
- Lord, THAT vision still hasn’t manifested yet but I trust in Your perfect timing (Habakkuk 2:3).
So what is your end? Simply put, your expected end is peace (Jeremiah 29:11). Today, let go of that anxiety in your heart about your future and be at peace. Don’t treat God as if He is like man. Yes—that
friend promised to stay by your side but left you. Yes—your family member that vowed
to help you with your vision lied. Yes—she never believed in you. BUT YES—God is faithful and His promises for
your life are true. Keep your blindfold on. Don't let go of His hand. Trust His voice. Ask the Holy Spirit to heal those
wounds in your heart that causes you to distrust His voice. The Holy Spirit is
guiding you through this journey of life (John 16:13) but it’s up to you to
trust Him. You will never fulfill your God-given purpose in this life if you
don’t trust the One who gave it to you. Love God but trust Him even greater.
"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD,
thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.." Jeremiah 29:11
